Originally written in English by the Pole Joseph Conrad (1857 - 1924) and published in 1899. It tells the story of Marlow, captain of a steamboat on a river in deep Africa and hired by an ivory mining company to search for his best employee, a certain Kurtz, disappeared under strange circumstances. The novel, thanks to its ambiguity and symbolism, is a critique of imperialism and a profound psychological study of human nature.
